The stars were in attendance as tonight BET aired its annual Hip-Hop awards show from Atlanta.
Jay-Z took home the first award of the night for MVP of the Year, beating out Lil Wayne, Kanye West, Drake, and T.I. The Brooklyn mogul kicked off the show with an orchestral rendition of his Jeezy-assisted “Real As It Gets,” and dedicated his award to Mr. Magic.

Recently freed drug kingpin “Freeway” Rick Ross has revealed plans for his career and record label now that he has his freedom, after a 20-year-prison sentence. The Los Angeles-based rising entrepreneur has launched a label and website, FreewayEnterprise.com, which will seek new faces to star in new movies being produced by the reformed drug dealer.

50 Cent is making it clear that he feels his upcoming “Before I Self Destruct” album is better than his first and insanely successful album. During a recent interview, the G-Unit general said “I think it’s a project that they will say is better than “Get Rich Or Die Tryin” because I had more time to think out and write out exactly what I wanted to say on this record.”

Triple C’s member Gunplay recently talked about the public (and their fans’) outlook and thoughts on his boss (Rick Ross) being considered a liar due to his past law enforcement involvement, saying that the media has played a role in exaggerating the truth. According to the Triple C’s member, Rick Ross’s Law Enforcement past was blown way out of proportion.

Beanie Sigel has stirred up some controversy about Jay-Z during a concert headlined by Jigga that took place Friday (October 23rd) in Philly. Many people are accusing Beanie of taking some subliminal jabs at his former Roc-A-Fella bossman. Ever since the footage of Jadakiss bringing out Beanie Sigel on stage during his set at the Powerhouse show yesterday landing online, the speculation of the Jay-Z jabs has been going crazy.

A group of prominent artists are moving forward with a lawsuit against the U.S. government for using music as a means for torture at Cuba’s controversial Guantanamo Bay facility. Last December, news hit media outlets about how military personnel were using music to humiliate and demoralize detainees.

Rapper Lil Wayne pleaded guilty to attempted weapons possession charges today. The rapper is expected to receive a maximum sentence of one year in jail, although he is expected to serve around eight months in prison for the offense.

Rick Ross continues to take jabs at any and everyone, especially G-Unit and its members. During a recent interview, Rick Ross not only shot off at 50 Cent saying he’s waiting on him to drop a number one album like him, but also G-Unit member Lloyd Banks. According to Rick Ross, he benefited financially from his taunts and beefs with 50 Cent and his G-Unit camp.

MTV writer Shaheem Reid recently talked about the backlash has has been getting over the 2009 “Hottest MCs In The Game” list, saying the Top 10 emcees compilation was not meant to diss any artists who did not make the cut. According to Reid, fans should keep in mind that the list is just an opinion-based list, not an official ranking.
