Gucci Denies Cocaine Use Behind Bars

SOHH.com

Incarcerated rapper Gucci Mane recently debunked claims that he violated his probation by using cocaine.
According to Gucci, who is currently serving a one-year jail sentence, he has no past history using cocaine.

“My urinalysis was from, like, six months ago,” he said in an interview. “I think it was for marijuana. But it definitely wasn’t from cocaine. I have never used cocaine. That’s just not true. Then I stopped smoking and stopped drinking. For the last six months, I haven’t used any drugs, and I will continue to claim sobriety. That’s why I said that at the BET Awards and made that PSA. Because that’s something I took to and made a part of my life. So even when I do get out of here, I plan on continuing that, and I’m proud of myself for that. That gave me peace, even in the situation I’m in now. I know you have to be optimistic. Even if you’re going through something that you expect to be good and it turns out bad, you know it will get well.” (XXL Mag)

His attorney Dwight L. Thomas suggested that drugs were part of the reason Gucci was sent to jail for a year.

Gucci’s probation for a 2005 aggravated-assault case was revoked because the flamboyant rapper has not completed a court-ordered 600 hours of community service, he’s tested positive for marijuana and cocaine during visits to his probation officer and he has not been getting the proper permission to travel as mandated previously by the judge. “[Gucci] told the court yesterday he was on a road to recovery in terms of being clean and sober,” explained Thomas, who also represented T.I. in his recent gun case. “[He is] alcohol free and weed free. … He’s also dealing with the emotional issue of killing somebody. He’s been in counseling and therapy.” (MTV)

The rapper’s one-year bid was speculated online last November.

Mane has been sent back to Fulton County Jail in Atlanta for probation violation. Sources close to the Atlanta rapper say Gucci attended a court hearing earlier today to determine whether or not he’d have to serve time for an unspecified infraction that violated the conditions of his probation. He was sentenced to 12 months, but could end up serving only six with good behavior. This doesn’t mark the first time Gucci violates his probation. The rapper was sent to the same jail for only completing 25 out of a required 600 hours of community service in relation to a prior assault charge. (BET)

Rapper Shawty Lo recently spoke on staying in contact with Gucci since his incarceration.

“I talk to him on a regular basis,” Shawty said in an interview. “We keep him posted [on things going on in the industry]. He probably on the phone right now. I ain’t got to give him advice, though. Gucci know what he gotta do — he’s a grown man. You know, he got his head up. He’s ready to come back home…His spirits is up, and he get a lot of mail and get a lot of support from the fans in the streets and, you know, he’s just waiting to come home to reclaim his career.” (VIBE)

Ludacris Talks “Hustler’s Spirit” Mixtape

Grammy-winning rapper Ludacris announced plans to release a new mixtape called Conjure: A Hustler’s Spirit.
According to Luda, he has found a renewed sense of value and inspiration in rap.

“Before the album, after the album, I’m just in a space where I’m inspired,” he says. “I’m inspired by beats of course, the ones that are on Battle of the Sexes. But even beyond that, I’m jumping on stuff. It’s my exercise. I wanna give all my fans something — [the ones] that have been supporting me for the last 10 years — something for free. It’s as simple as this. Spirit has a double meaning. When you talk about spirits, you talk about liquors, as in Conjure [cognac]. Then my spirit, I have a hustler’s spirit. People that listen to the mixtape have a hustler’s spirit. It’s a lot of people out there getting money. That’s basically what this thing is about. Even in the rap game, you have to sell records, we hustle. This is for the hustlers. Simple as that.” (MTV)

The rapper recently moved up his Battle of the Sexes album release date.

“The release date on the new album is officially March 9th, it was March 16th, it’s been pushed up a week due to the anticipation, feeling good, Battle of the Sexes, just got picked up on the Black Eyed Peas tour, so we’ll be promoting that starting Thursday all the way until the end of April,” Luda said in an interview. “So look for Battle of the Sexes on March 9th. Females from the past, present and future. Everybody from Eve, Trina, Lil Kim, Nicki Minaj, I got records talking about women, to women, women talking back to me and at the same time, just great music. I always try to out-do myself and re-invent, this is album number seven.” (Meet Tha Dealer TV)

A partial tracklisting for the album was revealed during a listening session earlier this month.

Noting that the tracklisting was subject to change before its tentative March 16 release date, Bridges thanked the crowd for supporting him over the last decade and offered his latest battle footage. 1. “Hey Ho” featuring Lil Kim 2. “Tell Me a Secret” featuring Ne-Yo 3. “My Chick Bad” featuring Nicki Minaj 4. “Got a Man” featuring Flo Rida 5. “Can’t Live With You, Can’t Live Without You” featuring Monica 6. “How Low” (Remix) featuring Ciara, Pitbull, Rick Ross, Twista 7. “Sex Room” featuring Trey Songz (Los Angeles Times)

Reports last month suggested production from hitmakers like Swizz Beatz.

Ludacris is waging an all-out war with the opposite sex. The Atlanta rapper has challenged some of female rap’s biggest stars to a battle on his new album. Lil’ Kim, Eve, Trina and Nicki Minaj are among those getting in the ring with the Grammy winner on his seventh studio albumBattle of the Sexes, due March 16. Previously planned as a joint album with femcee Shawnna, the set will also include appearances from Ne-Yo, Ciara, Flo Rida and Plies. Bangladesh, Swizz Beatz and J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League have all contributed to the project. (Rap-Up)

Former Aftermath Records artist Game has shown signs of returning to Dr. Dre’s renowned label after posting a photo wearing the company’s logos this weekend.
Although Game has yet to confirm or deny a comeback to Aftermath, he did, however, post an image with the record labelpendants.

“It’s funny how things come full circle. R.E.D.http://tweetphoto.com/10625448,” Game wrote prior to posting the photo. “Somebody just hit me n asked: What are those “A” chains for ? now u know u need yo azz whooped !” (Game’s Twitter)

The rapper recently spoke on his admiration for the Doc.

“I used to always wonder why [Dr. Dre] would make one face [during photo shoots]. He wouldn’t change it. He wouldn’t smile. He wouldn’t turn profile. It [would] just be straight on. If you saw Dr. Dre in pictures, it’s always straight up. It’s the same facial expression. And I asked, ‘Yo, why do you do that?’ and he said, ‘It’s the only way I like to see myself … When the magazine cover comes back or the album comes back and when someone istaking pictures and I see it, it’s the only way I like to see myself.’ You think [Dre is] being rude, but he just knows. So after that, you know, if I don’t feel comfortable doing it, I’m not doing it. And, at the end of day, I have to be happy with it. I mean, the photographer’s taking pictures, you guys got a magazine to sell, but I’ve gotta be comfortable with who I am.” (Rolling Out Magazine)

Last November, Game revealed his return to working with Dre.

“R.E.D., I’m just painting the whole world red,” Game promised in an interview with DJ Green Lantern. “It’s basically the re-dedication, it’s my most hood and street album since The Documentary so it’s basically being rededicated to my fans, myfamily, my kids, my block, my hood. Like, hip-hop, the R.E.D. Album is gonna be crazy. I’m back in with Dre everyday going hard in the studio doing the little stuff, working on Detox with him and he’s working on The R.E.D. Album with me. It’s just, we got a good feeling out here…I did my last two albums without Dre and even though, I just did it on my own man. When I talked to him, he [was like] I’ve been doing a good job and he took a listen and I did my thing. I learned well, my time at Aftermath was spent well, so getting back in, that old feeling came back. The chemistry is crazy, I got a lot of love for that dude and that’s why I never really disrespected him or really went at Aftermath, I only did what I had to do to survive man, but I got love for dude and we back in grindin’ man.” (That’s Hip Hop)

Game’s time on Aftermath reportedly ended in 2006.

Due to his disputes with 50 Cent, Game left Aftermath Entertainment and signed with Geffen Records (another label under Universal Music Group’s Interscope-Geffen-A&M division) to terminate his contractual obligations with G-Unit in the summer of 2006. The rapper’s second album Doctor’s Advocate was released on November 14, 2006. (Wikipedia)

Though C-Murder is currently serving a life sentence the rapper’s son still has faith that his father will return “home” by the end of this year.

While not going into full detail, Young Trump said his father is currently still working on his appeal.

“Right now he’s in Louisiana, he’s working on his appeal right now, some new lawyers have picked up his situation,” Trump revealed in a late January 2009 interview with radio personalityEI8HT. “I can’t really speak on the situation too much, but he should be home by the end of next year though. For sure. I talked to him like everyday. Everything’s good, he gives me good advice, told me to come into the game as a bully and do my thing.” (“Street Disciplez Radio”)

The rapper recently updated fans on his well-being behind bars.

“I’m holding up pretty good here at Angola [State prison inLouisiana],” C-Murder wrote in a letter. “I work out regularly and participate in all sports leagues. Of course I hate it, but hey, you gotta do what you gotta do. Life is short and the time you waste in jail can never be replaced. I’m asking you guys to take heed to my situation and better yourselves to live a positive and productive life.” (All Hip Hop)

Former No Limit Records artist Mystikal recently spoke on Murder’s legal woes.

“I haven’t had a chance to speak with [Master P] since I been back though,” Mystikal told DJ Whoo Kid in an interview. “I ain’t get a chance to holla at him yet. I hollered at C before his [case] went the way it did, you know. We gonna see if we can work on that too, I can’t let him sit in there like that. He still got some breathing room, he got a little fight left in him.” (Radio Planet TV)

Master P spoke with SOHH last fall about his brother, C-Murder,doing time behind bars.

“Your image can get you incarcerated and take a lot of things away from you,” P explained. “I think he realizes that right now and he definitely will be fighting an appeal but it takes times. It might take two to three years. He’s innocent from his crimes, everybody knows that but that goes to show you how your image and all the stuff from your past — it makes others think ‘Oh, you know this guy’s name is C-Murder, so he’s guilty.’ They don’t even look at, ‘Oh you wasn’t in the club, you didn’t pull the trigger.’ Man, your image can really describe your life.” (SOHH)

Wayne Looking Forward To Jail Sentence

J-Cee:THEQUICKHOUR.COM

Lil Wayne has been enjoying a lot of success lately. Approaching soon though for the Rap Mongol is an eight month jail sentence that will halt things a bit. The rapper feels that this situation will only make him better.

In an interview with the Rolling Stone, Wayne said “I don’t like to stop. I believe you stop when you die. This is Lil Wayne going to jail. Nobody I can talk to can tell me what that’s like. I just say I’m looking forward to it. I’ll have an iPod, and I”ll make sure they keep sending me beats.”

On Jenny Boom Boom TV, Nicki Minaj talked about Wayne’s sentence.

“He is going to be up there in February. I’ll [visit him] as often as I can. I mean, he’s gonna be in New York and I’m from New York, so, I would love to just come up there as often as I can. But he’s gonna be, there’s gonna be so many people there so you know, I’m sure it’ll go by in like, days, to him. It’ll probably be a very weird experience but I think at the end he’ll come out stronger, like, he always does. Nothing ever fazes him really.”
